One of the youngest cities of the district, developed to a modern pace, it is the biggest port of Fokida prefecture. Because of its relatively recent establishment (compared to the antiquity of the district), the town is very well organized, and offers visitors modern amenities. The area is moderately famous for the naval battle in the bay of Angalis, crucial in the 1821 war of independence. The port of Itea, although mainly commercial and industrial (traffic in bauxite ore from Parnassos) fits perfectly with the beautiful terrain of rolling green hills and beaches. Albeit the new town of Itea was founded early last century, that does not mean that the area known as the the Port of Salona doesn’t have a long and remarkable history.
Located a few kilometers towards the mountain, leaving behind the well-known marine rock outcroppings, an excellent path will lead you to the ruins of the ancient city of Krissa, dating back to 3,000 BC, it is a route recommended both for its archaeological interest and for the panoramic view.
